Obituary of William E. Confrey

William E. Confrey, 90, a 58 year resident of Garnerville,NY passed away at home on March 27 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in New York City on December 31, 1923 to Thomas and Gertrude Confrey and had just celebrated his 90th birthday in Aruba this Christmas with his children and grandchildren. He served proudly as a Sergeant in the US Army in WWII, seeing action from North Africa to Italy France and Germany. He was a First Grade Detective in the NYPD and retired in 1972. He went on to become a Master Electrician with Local 363 of the Electricians Union and had a third career with the NJ State Attorney Generals office. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and remained an active member of the Haverstraw Elks BPOE #877, where he had previously served as House Chairman. Bill had a large and loving family and was predeceased by his beloved wife Alice in 2005 and his beloved son John (Jack) in 2011, as well as two of his brothers, Thomas and Donald. He is survived by his children Tom (Pat) of Nanuet, Bill (Peg) of Pearl River, Ann (Ron) Peterson of Garnerville and Alice (Jack) Peene of Ridgewood, NJ. He is also survived by his cherishede grandchildren, Liam, Meg, Kate, Catherine, Brianna, Sean, Amy, Griffin, Quincy, Gavin and Wes, as well as five great grandchildren Maeve, Jack, Will, Madeline and Charlotte. He is also survived by his brother and sister in law Chris (Ann) Confrey. He had an incredibly sharp mind and memory and could recount dates, times, places, and events at will. Bill had a love of life and people, was an avid Yankee fan and never missed a football game on tv. He was a faithful member of St Gregory's parish and sat in the same seat at mass each week. He loved trying new restaurants but thought You couldn't beat the steaks at Louies! The measure of a man is not how much he loved, but how much he was loved by others. He will be missed every day - he was so well loved. Bill's family will receive friends at T.J. McGOWAN SONS FUNERAL HOME, 71 N. Central Highway, GARNERVILLE, on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 7-9pm, and on Sunday, March 30 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, March 31 at 10am at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, 21 Cinder Rd., Garnerville with interment to follow at Fred W. Loescher Veterans Cemetery, Brick Church Rd, New Hempstead, NY 10977.
